What I learned today!
Here is what I have learned so far today:
- 5 forty pound bags of potting soil can hurt you.
- tree saplings do not like to stand up straight when you are trying to plant the stupid things
- The friendly people at ***mart aren’t so helpful when you are carting around 200 pounds of potting soil(I guess they are afraid you might want them to help load it)
- A small 1.5 foot deep hole in the ground can hold an amazing amount of potting soil.
I did this all without my wife present so one of two things will happen. She will either be grateful for my putting forth the effort to get the trees planted or I will have put the flowering cherry tree on the wrong side of the lawn. I am betting on the second option there!

Isn’t it amazing how all ***mart employees disappear the minute you have something overbearingly heavy in your cart?
I hope your cherry tree is in the right place!
No matter what, (or where) your yard will look beautiful and you (when you recover) can enjoy the sight… Glad one of us has some ambition and energy!
Good luck on the placement of that tree. That is a lot of work.
Next year you’ll be so glad you did it.
Our red bud tree - planted 2 1/2 years ago is blooming now, and it makes me smile every time I see it.
