#@$* &$#* @&%*$

In case you are wondering, if I swore then the title would be swear words!

At the risk of causing myself more trouble I am going to talk a bit about my job! I had pretty much stopped complaining about it ever since they found my site but this needs to be said and if they don’t know my feelings already then they would have soon enough!

See I work in a shop setting and we all have our little jobs to do. Over the course of my time there I have learned to do more than most of my colleagues there but that is not the point. See I am a firm believer in the whole “if you have a job to do than do it” school of thinking. My place of employment pays someone to come in and clean a few times a week. Just the front offices and the break room. We take care of the shop ourselves as far as cleaning goes.

Last week the “cleaning” lady decided that she didn’t want to do the restrooms or the break room anymore because they were too dirty. Cry me a river, a dirty bathroom in a shop full of guys, what a surprise. Anyway, the powers that be decided that she doesn’t have to clean them anymore, instead they have made a schedule up for us to do it. Some of us do it more than others and some don’t have to do it at all, but I digress.

One thing I don’t understand is why they are still paying her the same amount of money to do less work, the work that we are now required to do. As if we aren’t busy enough we have to take time away from production to clean the bathrooms and the break room!

Really, I don’t mind cleaning so much it’s just that it is her job, she is paid to do it. Plus the machine I work on is running constantly and has to be tended to at all times which means I have to get someone to come over and cover me when it is my turn to clean the room. Oh and get this stupid idea, if we are not able to be there on our day, WE have to make sure that our cleaning is covered by someone else, see now they are just getting lazy all over the place there!

I better stop now before I say something I regret, maybe something funny later!

This is so wrong on so many levels, I don’t know where to start. You know, every single day I find myself saying (to myself) “If I did my job the way [this person] does theirs, I would be fired.” I’m talking about receptionists in doctor’s offices, welders who make lawn furniture, mechanics who ‘forget’ to tighten bolts, I could go on and on. These were just a few examples off the top of my head. But nobody seems to have any pride in their work these days. If you are hired to do a job, sometimes that job is harder depending on lots of variables, like how dirty a bathroom might be. What was she expecting, that it might get cleaner as time went on? I don’t get people anymore. You should NOT be expected to stop your job to do hers. That’s nuts. And her pay should be adjusted accordingly. I agree with you 100%. I hope that changes for you soon.

Bummer – I’d be mad too.

the cleaning crew at my office only empty my waste paper baskets if I set them out so they can see them. Like they don’t know they’re there. I was out of the office 4 days last week, and when I went in yesterday, the same coffee containers were still in the basket.

@Linda: I don’t know how long it will take but I imagine it will all come to a head soon as many people are very angry about it.

@Cas: Her idea of emptying the trash was to set the bag outside the break room door, so thats what I did too. It did not go over well!
