Bi-polar mall security guard Ronnie Barnhardt is called into action to stop a flasher from turning shopper’s paradise into his personal peep show. But when Barnhardt can’t bring the culprit to justice, a surly police detective, is recruited to close the case.
Sounds like it could be funny, right? The preview was hilarious! Unfortunately the only funny parts of Observe and Protect were in the previews! Seth Rogen may have officially sounded the death knell for his somewhat short career. If this is his idea of something worth being in, he should quit and go work in fast food. His only hope will be that the Green Hornet or Funny People will build his career up again.
It’s not bad enough that it includes a date rape scene, but it also has enough gratuitous swearing to make a sailor blush. I could tell they were only using it to try and get a laugh, but it just ceased being funny after the first 20 F bombs.
Writer director Jody Hill needs to sit back and take a long hard look at where she is right now, take note of it and decide if she wants to continue down that path. I cannot see building a career on this type of schlock as being fulfilling or rewarding.
I am giving this “movie” 1 star since I did giggle a few times and smiled when I realized it was finally over. I don’t even recomend renting this on DVD, it’s just that bad.

This movie was wrong on so many levels. I just cannot believe they would even release something like this.

I usually enjoy low brow humor when it is in moderation, but this movie seems to be one long attempt at it. What Paul Blart: Mall Cop would have been had the writers been on a four day bender and really ticked off.
Well, now I feel much better about thinking that it looked like a really stupid movie when I first saw the previews. Thank you for confirming my suspicions, Jeff.
