I finally got out of the house to do something that didn’t involve medical testing! I drove 112 miles north to see my good friends band play. A long long time ago, he was the bass player in a my band, I call it my band loosely, it was all our bands I just didn’t feel like figuring out another way to say it. Anyway, that band was about the furthest thing from Christian that it could possible have been. Now he plays in a Christian metal band called Suffer the King. Good stuff if you are into metal, so no Linda, don’t even bother! So this first shot is a band shot, I apologize in advance for the quality of the shots. This was my first attempt at shooting a band with this camera and I had a few challenges to overcome. Mostly it was just inexperience, with practice I should be able to do a lot better. I have never had a whole lot of luck shooting in dark places before either.

Yes I broke the cardinal rule of concert shooting and used a flash. I couldn’t help it though as I don’t have any fast lenses yet. The best I have is still 3.5 wide open, I really need a 1.8 at least, but 1.4 preferably. Anyway, this next shot is of the singer, who has the coolest name in the band IMHO.

Did I mention that I shot most of the show in RAW mode, which made it even more of a challenge for me since I had to figure out what all the different sliders in the conversion program do! Next up is my buddy Quentin, he’s a really good guy, which makes me wonder why he puts up with me? Quentin has some mad bass skills and is showing them off here, granted you can’t tell since this is a still photo, but you can pretend or go to their mySpace page that I linked earlier.
Quentin
Next up we have the guitar wizard himself Dan, who by the way is hilarious. He reminds me of myself when I get going, only he is actually funny!
Dan
Last but not least we have the drummer, whom I could not for the life of me get a good shot of because every time he looked up someone got in front of me.
Derek
I hope I got everyones names right, I had to write them down from memory and as you all know, my memory is pretty poor! Suffer the King rocked the show Saturday night and I can’t wait to see them again!
