There have been quite a few searches for ileocolic resection landing here lately. I assume you are coming here hoping for information on the procedure. Rest assured I have no idea what they did. All I know is I fell asleep on that gurney and woke up with a bunch of stitches in my belly. Oh and a really cool tube going down my throat.

If your doctor is recommending this procedure, you are right to research it. A little knowledge goes a long way towards easing your mind. I highly recommend the surgery as it does help. I unfortunately have already begun to show signs of my immune system attacking my colon. So yes I will have to get it done again in the future. Good luck.

Yet another new look, why you ask, because this template is easier to customize than the last. What does this mean to you? Not much at first, but it is easier to find bugs in the site and correct them. It loads slightly faster and it plays much better with the plugins that I use here.

Yes I know I still haven’t posted the rest of the surgery story, I had to put it on hold for just a bit. I have a paying web job to do and it is taking a lot of my concentration. I should have the harder parts of it done soon and be able to put my mind to more important tasks like babbling about my problems.

I had a follow up visit with my surgeon today. I am apparently I am right on track and healing as expected. News to me, but whatever you say doc. Someday I may be able to join the workforce again and have a regular job, unless of course the economy takes a further tailspin into the abyss. As it is there aren’t many jobs around here. Thank God for the web job and secret shopper jobs. At least I am eating unhealthily!

Yes, I have a couple more posts to squeeze out of my hospital stay, no I don’t feel like writing them right now. I just wanted to pop in here and tell everyone that I had a great birthday Tuesday and to thank all the well wishers.

Becky and I went out to take advantage of the free Grand Slam from Denny’s. I was surprised, I was ready for a horrible wait and a substandard breakfast at best. What I got was speedy service and the same Slam I have come to know and love. We only waited about 10 minutes to get a seat and from there about 5 till we got our breakfast. Well done Denny’s!

Later we all went out to eat at my favorite restaurant, Joe’s Crab Shack. I could eat there everyday if I could afford it.

All in all, a great day spent with the people I love!

Ileocolic resection= removal of a small section of the small intestine and reattachment of small intestine to colon. (at least in my case)

This is going to recount the days that I spent in the hospital, including the moments up to surgery, it isn’t terrible exciting, but may prove useful for someone someday. I will be doing it in parts so as not to have one long rambling post.

12-26-08
The alarm started blaring at 4am, I was starving and still very tired. Becky and I got up, got dressed and set about the task of getting to the hospital. My surgery was scheduled for 7:30am and you are required to be there two hours early for check in and getting prepped. After check in we were sent to the waiting room where we, guess what, waited! The wait wasn’t very long but it was unpleasant for me. I hadn’t eaten anything since the 24th and I tend to get cranky when I am hungry. They took us to a little room with a very small bed like chair and a few regular chairs. I got to put on my sexy robe at that time and lay down for a bit. Thankfully for Becky, there was a small TV in the room as I wasn’t much company.

People came and went for the next few hours. I saw nurses and anesthesiologists and more nurses and I believe a surgeon, although I have to admit I was a bit out of it from being tired and hungry. When the time finaly came for me to go to surgery, they asked me if I would be able to walk or if I needed a wheelchair, I walked. I remember walking into the very brightly lit room, I remember the pure abject terror that I was feeling. As I was lying on the table they were busy searching for veins for the I.V. Soon they put me on oxygen, they were talking to me the whole while, telling me to relax. My heart rate was showing my panicked state. Then I was out.

Persistent buggers aren’t you?

I have been spending time getting everything ready for my big adventure on Friday. I am trying to keep myself occupied so I don’t psych myself out anymore than I already am.

Had to go to the doctor today because my bronchitis is not totally gone yet, this is not a good thing since I cannot have it when I go to surgery. The doc gave me the antibiotic that they usually perscribe for pneumonia. She said this should work and have me where I need to be by Friday. When I went to get the perscription filled they cashier asked me for 123 dollars! I about had to be carried out of the store. It’s all good though, they just accidentaly ran it through on an old insurance number, took a few hours but it got straightened out and I got my money back. They actually gave it to me for free and didn’t charge the co-pay to make up for the trouble.

I am supposed to be posting more about Christmases past, but I haven’t got it in me today, hopefully tommorrow I can get it up here.
